Abbey of the Genesee, York

Established in 1951, the Abbey of the Genesee is a monastery of the Order of Cistercians of Strict Observance, commonly known as Trappists. Over 2,000 acres of fields and woods comprise the grounds, which include several retreat houses in addition to the abbey complex.

To assist in financially supporting monastery operations, and as part of the Trappist lifestyle, the Abbey of the Genesee has been producing its signature Monks' Bread for nearly 70 years. Baked in the on-site commercial bakery, Monks' Bread and other baked goods continue to be distributed across western and central New York.
