Harriet Lee Saltonstall Gratwick (1907-1999) moved to Linwood Gardens, her husband Bill Gratwick's family summer home, in 1934. Both Harriet and Bill were active in community theater and music productions through the Linwood Grange.

Harriet attended Eastman School of Music in Rochester for conducting, later opening the Linwood Music School in 1948. The summer programs operated on the Gratwick property until 1963. They offered musical instruction to children and adults, and the school sponsored professional musicians from Rochester and Buffalo so that summer concerts could be provided free of charge.

Harriet also helped establish the York Opera Company in 1948, which performed primarily Gilbert and Sullivan musicals around York and surrounding towns, and she was involved in founding the Rochester Zen Center in 1966.
